Based on collections of the Documentation and Information System of CAS and its related information organizations, depending on diverse Internet information resources and advanced information searching technology and with CAS scientists of frontier fields and veteran consulting librarians as its domain and information experts, the Information Desk realizes online information consultation of domain documentations and consultation and impartation of professional knowledge by exploiting and leveraging domain knowledge, collection resources and online information, and thus maximizing the knowledge navigating function of libraries for national economic construction and technological development in the era of knowledge economy

   The establishment of Collaborative Online Reference Services of Shanghai Central Library was led by Shanghai Library in collaboration with public, research and university libraries and related organizations in Shanghai. Based on collections of libraries and their related organizations in Shanghai, relying on abundant information resources on the Internet and various information searching technologies and with veteran consulting librarians of young and middle age in the field of library information as its online knowledge navigators, it leads libraries in Shanghai to share their respective advantages in terms of online reference consultation services, maximizing the knowledge navigating function of libraries for other industries in the era of knowledge economy by enhancing the exploitation and leverage of featured collections and online information resources. In order to expose more readers to wider knowledge navigation, the Reference Services also offers consultation service focusing on information concerning Hong Kong, Singapore and Macao in cooperation with Lingnan University Library, Hong Kong, National Library Board, Singapore and Macao Central Library.
