作品简介

《伊索寓言》是以公元前六世纪古希腊语言作家伊索的名义流传的古希腊寓言集，其中的寓言故事多与动物有关，生动有趣、寓意深刻，予人以启迪，历来深受各个国家、各个层次的读者喜爱。《伊索寓言》版本众多，而《伊索寓言：555则》是著名翻译家黄杲炘在多个版本基础上，集各家所长而成，寓言数量达到前所未有的555则，并根据主角将这些庞杂的寓言分成了十类，井然有序，便于查阅和对比阅读。

 

作者简介

伊索（Aesop，约前620年-前560年），古希腊著名哲学家、文学家，与克雷洛夫、拉·封丹和戈特霍尔德·埃夫莱姆·莱辛并称世界四大寓言家。据说，伊索原是萨摩斯岛雅德蒙家的奴隶，后因才智出众而恢复自由，曾出入吕底亚王国的宫廷，并出访希腊城邦，以机智巧妙的寓言调停过雅典、科林斯等地的冲突，后被德尔斐人杀死。自公元五世纪末，他的名字就已为希腊人所熟知，很多寓言归在他名下。如今常见的《伊索寓言》是后人根据拜占庭教士普拉努得斯搜集的寓言及后来陆续发现的古希腊寓言抄本编订而成。

城里老鼠和乡下老鼠

乡下老鼠向城里老鼠发出邀请，要这好朋友来做客，分享他农家的伙食。他俩来到一无遮蔽的田间，吃着麦秆和灌木树篱下刨出的根茎。这时，城里老鼠对他朋友说：“你在这里过的是蚂蚁生活；而我家里却应有尽有，吃喝不愁，周围多的是山珍海味。真希望你愿意跟我去，到了那里，你就能分享我丰盛的美味佳肴了。”乡下老鼠马上被说服，跟着朋友进了城。到了家，城里老鼠在朋友面前放上面包、大麦、蚕豆、无花果干、蜂蜜、葡萄干，最后，还从篮子里拿来可口的干酪。乡下老鼠看到如此盛宴，大为高兴，以热烈的言辞表达了他满意的心情，同时对自己的艰难生活不胜感慨。他们刚要大吃一顿，突然有人开门，吓得他们吱吱一叫，连忙逃进洞里。洞很小，他俩只能挨挤在一起，才勉强容身。他们第二次准备进食时，偏偏又有人进来，打开了食品柜拿东西。这一回，他们更是吓得厉害，连忙鼠窜而去，躲了起来。最后，饿得半死的乡下老鼠对朋友说：“虽说你为我准备了如此精美的筵席，可也只得让你自己享用了。这里危机四伏，使我忐忑不安。我宁可去一无遮蔽的田野，吃灌木树篱下挖来的根茎，这样，我才能过上太平日子，不用老是提心吊胆。

 

The Town Mouse & the Country Mouse

A town mouse and a country mouse were acquaintances, and the country mouse one day invited his friend to come and see him at his home in the fields. The town mouse came, and they sat down to a dinner of barleycorns and roots, the latter of which had a distinctly earthy flavor. The fare was not much to the taste of the guest, and presently he broke out with ‘My poor dear friend, you live here no better than the ants. Now, you should just see how I fare! My larder is a regular horn of plenty. You must come and stay with me, and I promise you you shall live on the fat of the land.’ So when he returned to town he took the country mouse with him, and showed him into a larder containing flour and oatmeal and figs and honey and dates. The country mouse had never seen anything like it, and sat down to enjoy the luxuries his friend provided: but before they had well begun, the door of the larder opened and someone came in. The two mice scampered off and hid themselves in a narrow and exceedingly uncomfortable hole. Presently, when all was quiet, they ventured out again; but someone else came in, and off they scuttled again. This was too much for the visitor. ‘Goodbye,’ said he, ‘I’m off. You live in the lap of luxury, I can see, but you are surrounded by dangers; whereas at home I can enjoy my simple dinner of roots and corn in peace.’
