玛丽·雪莱（Mary Shelley，1797-1851），英国著名小说家，因创作文学史上第一部科幻小说《弗兰肯斯坦》而被誉为科幻小说之母。原名玛丽·沃斯通克拉夫特·葛德文，出生于英国伦敦附近的萨姆斯镇，母亲是著名的女权主义者，父亲是无政府主义哲学家。16岁时与诗人雪莱相遇，与其私奔。1818年创作《弗兰肯斯坦》，并在雪莱死后为其编印遗作。

What then became of me? I know not; I lost sensation, and chains and darkness were the only objects that pressed upon me. Sometimes, indeed, I dreamt that I wandered in flowery meadows and pleasant vales with the friends of my youth; but I awoke, and found myself in a dungeon.
